Dual Sport Essentials (DSE) was founded by Colorado native, Eric Melvin.  Eric was born and raised in the mountain town of Silverthorne, Colorado and began riding dirt bikes there at 8 years old.  A third generation motorcycle rider, riding is in Eric's DNA.  Eric had his own motorcycle before he had his own bicycle.  He began riding dual sport and adventure in 1987 when he received his motorcycle licence.  

While growing up, Eric did many 100+ mile rides on a mix of roads and trails throughout area mountain counties.  Some of the most popular adventure routes in Colorado were Eric's training ground as a kid riding with his dad and older brothers and solo.  Eric also trained for motorcycle riding with mountain bike skills and competitions which has proven to be invaluable to his riding skills to this day.  

Eric founded Adventure Riders of Colorado (ARC) in 2016 after recognizing a need for a professionally managed social group where riders could connect and talk about Colorado riding as well as receive education, training and inspiration.  Eric has led over 500 people in ARC group rides. He is a highly sought after coach offering private and small group riding skills classes.  Eric also offers classroom setting courses and private consultations for riders who are new to off road, dual sport and adventure riding.   

Eric's approach and philosophies to coaching off road, dual sport and adventure riding stem from the valuable experience he gained by real off road riding as well as learning from the pro riders & motorcycle heroes he's had since childhood.    

Many ADV coaches and YouTubers are new to the sport, began riding street bikes and then jumped on the bandwagon of dual sport / adventure riding after seeing the trend.  Some coaches have even taken more time off from riding than they have actually accumulated.  Eric has been riding consistently and consecutively in Colorado since 1979. Riding off road, dual sport and adventure is who Eric is and will always be!  

You can watch YouTube videos for tips and advice but they offer ZERO feedback when it's time to actually do the work in real time.  Eric offers honest, personalized,  valuable, critical insight and feedback during class and demonstrations.
